John Howard Lawson

John Howard Lawson was a prominent American playwright and screenwriter who made significant contributions to both the theater and film industries. Born in 1894, Lawson initially gained recognition for his plays, which were performed on and off Broadway during the 1920s and 1930s. His early success in the theater world laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the motion picture industry.

Lawson's transition to Hollywood marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career, during which he wrote several notable screenplays. Some of his most notable works include Blockade, released in 1938, Action in the North Atlantic in 1943, and Counter-Attack in 1945. In addition to his screenwriting accomplishments, Lawson played a key role in the organization of the Screen Writers Guild in 1933, serving as its first president. He passed away in 1977, leaving behind a legacy as a talented and influential figure in American cinema.
